SOLECITO (20', Colombia / France / Denmark, 2013)

Screening: Fr, 13 Dec., Elvira Popescu Cinema, 5:30pm

The result of a chance encounter between life and cinema, SOLECITO is the tender story of two teenagers discovered by RUIZ NAVIA during a casting. Their former relationship and how it ended inspires the director to stage their would be reconciliation. Their contagious unspoiled authenticity and youthful energy rubs off on the camera, that radiates vitality as it records their fictional renewed love. In this refreshing instance of reality and cinema influencing each other, the border between fact and fiction is blurred. Casting footage becomes a documentary of the film’s making, which in turn becomes the base of the teenagers’ possible make-up. (Diana Mereoiu, BIEFF 2013)

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT:

“A year ago, in the middle of a casting process in several schools in Cali, looking for actors for my feature film LOS HONGOS (currently in postproduction), I came across two very special individuals who told me a story. I decided to start a project with them, honestly, with no pretense other than to explore some questions I had regarding cinematic representation and the ambiguous pathway separating reality and fiction. I was going through a turbulent time in my life and the only way I knew to get through it was by starting to direct a very austere project, which I sensed could be filled with light. SOLECITO is the result of some extremely personal research with two adolescents. The project received support from the artist Olafur Eliasson and production support from Tine Fischer, Diana Bustamante, Guillaume de Seille and Gerylee Polanco, who have come through for me every time I’ve showed up on their doorsteps with proposals filmed without a cent. I may not have had any money, but I had an idea in my head and a camera in hand.” (OSCAR RUIZ NAVIA)
