For the first time in the history of Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival, the annual event dedicated to experimental films and visual arts launches an international call for entries. Starting from this year, video artists and filmmakers from all around the world can submit their latest projects for the festival Official Competition vi FilmFreeway.
The 12th edition of the festival will take place in Bucharest on September 27- October 02, and the deadline for submissions is June 15, 2022.
An annual event dedicated to experimental films and visual arts, BIEFF aims to promote highly innovative films and filmmakers with strong personal views on contemporary reality, which also daringly explore the boundaries of cinematic language. The festival was co-founded by Golden Bear winning director Adina Pintilie in 2010, being the first showcase of avant-garde cinema and visual art in Romania.
The festival program includes two short film competitions (International Competition and National Competition), special short and feature film programs, exhibitions and installations, as well as panels and debates.
The films selected for the National Competition will be considered for the Best Romanian Film Award, while those selected for the International Competition will be considered for the following awards:
· BIEFF 2022 Grand Prize
· Best Directing Award
· Best Visual Concept Award
· Special Jury Mention (optional)
The experimental films submitted via FilmFreeway will be considered eligible for one of the two short competitions only if they were produced / released after September 1, 2021. Also, the duration of the films should be no longer than 40 minutes. The form of the film and its topic are not subject to any regulations, however the festival favors films and audio-visual works with an innovative and experimental character.
Before completing the registration form and submitting the film and the necessary information, the creators are invited to consult the BIEFF Rules & Regulations, available online.
